The governors of Sandon College have considered the pros and cons of academy status and at a full governors meeting the board passed a resolution to pursue academy conversion for September, with Ormiston Academies Trust as the preferred sponsor.

Governors could not ignore the potential benefits of having a larger degree of autonomy and the ongoing support of the nationally well regarded Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), particularly during a period when rapid school improvement is essential.

You may also all be aware of the impact that OAT has had on the two other local successful academies, Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (OSSMA) and Ormiston Horizon Academy. Indeed we already have close links with OSSMA and those links would strengthen as, whilst having our own identity, we will aim to replicate their remarkable achievements.

The Secretary of State for Education has passed an Academy Order confirming that Sandon BEAC will become a sponsored academy.
